Title and abstract

As it becomes difficult to get a substantial group of us together on short advance notice, below please find the title and abstract I propose for the June Jornadas of IES Lola Mora. Please read carefully and write a comment including: a) any suggestion to amend, add, or subtract from the abstract or title; b) in what capacity you'd like to contribute, i.e. as a presenter, provider of material, development of new or follow-up project without presenting, etc. If I see no comment, I assume you have no interest in participating in any way. I'd like to get your feedback as late as Sunday pm. Also, if you'd like to present, please email me your CV at calizar@arnet.com.ar
We expect to present a 90-minute plenary workshop. I look forward to hearing from you!

Title: Technology with a Humanistic Touch
Abstract: Much is said about the use of technology, and often we use it in our classroom for the sake of adding variety and motivating students. We propose we add a humanistic dimension to its use so that it allows for students’ growth on a personal level both linguistically and emotionally. Participants will have exposure and get involved in activities designed around the use of the internet, blogs, email, podcasts, video, film making, digital photography, and slideshows that promote self-expression, creativity, and a close connection with their inner selves and their environment.

I AM interested in presenting. In fact, part of the material I could use for this is the one I produced with my sts. last year (related to self-exploration), and I would like to try something with podcasts as well.
As to the abstract, I guess it´s quite broad so we will have enough flexibility to include as much material as we can in the following weeks of work. I would just like to add some more concepts related to the use of technology in EFL teaching. I´ll think about it and jot down some ideas soon. By the way, the CV should be a short account of our teaching practice & experience as we did for FAAPI??

It's the actual CV, not the biostatement, which I think is what you mean by the short account etc. Don't forget to update it!

From Omar:
"I think the abstract is appropriate for the title. I like that “it allows for students’ growth on a personal level both linguistically and emotionally” because I agree with you regarding students. However, I can't stop thinking about my colleagues' reactions towards new technologies which we should consider in the presentation.
I wonder if all teachers are willing to use new technologies.
In some of them I’ve seen a poor attitude towards their use in class. I think they feel applying new technologies in class like a heavy burden. Also, some of them wonder to what extent students will acquire more input this way. I heard this from teachers from other institutions.
I think our task in this presentation should be to attract these colleagues to explore new fields in the teaching of languages as it was once the use of a tape-recorder, cassettes and video tapes. The proposal is to show that it is possible to go for a different activity around technology; that teachers may now play the role as material designer/provider, and from an array of activities we present choose the one that better adapts to their necessity in the classroom. They should try it at least once and shouldn’t feel frustrated beforehand.
What I’ve heard worries me and I think we should address this issue at some point.
Finally, I shall collaborate with the presentation and if you still consider that I can take part of it as a presenter, I’m fully willing to do it.

I should clarify that they want the SHORT CV, or RESUME. They'll wait for us until Tuesday March 25.
